110 points: Luca Gardini: "Undoubtedly the most desirable cru of Verduno, in the westernmost area of the DOCG, soils composed of the renowned Marne di Sant'Agata fossils. The aroma has a great richness, red blueberry, then balsamic nuances and licorice. The mouthfeel is crisp and taut, with brackish tannins and incredible persistence. (May 2022)"

The Story

The symbolic vineyard of Verduno, a bulwark of elegance in Barolo. Our interpretation gathers the testimony of an ancient way, a refined taste, to be rediscovered. The luxury, calm, and voluptuousness of Baudelaire’s texts is imprisoned here, in its lyrical intonation, in the aromas of a Levantine smokehouse and in the rich and light flavor, whose salty trail traces a finale image of clear purity.

Our vineyard in Monvigliero is located in t...

Written Notes

A hauntingly aromatic, beautifully lifted Monvigliero — a wine of grace, detail, and Burgundian finesse, expressing the vineyard with exceptional purity.

The 2018 Monvigliero opens with an ethereal, intoxicating bouquet: wild strawberry, red cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry, intertwined with the vineyard’s unmistakable notes of fresh rose petal, violet, anise, and delicate white pepper. Beneath the perfume lies a subtle tapestry of herbal tones, dried mint, sweet spices, and warm clay, capturing the essence of this legendary cru.

On the palate, the wine is silky, lifted, and wonderfully transparent, offering a seamless flow of red-fruited elegance. Layers of raspberry, sour cherry, red currant, and blood orange glide across the mid-palate, supported by fine nuances of licorice root, fennel seed, crushed herbs, and tea leaf.

The tannins are ultra-fine, long, and delicately chalky, providing structure while preserving the wine’s airy, almost weightless texture. Bright, vibrant acidity gives the wine energy, drive, and dynamic tension, amplifying its purity and floral lift.

As the wine evolves, savory and earthy notes of tobacco leaf, dried rose, white truffle, and subtle spice emerge, adding depth and a sense of quiet seriousness beneath the elegance.

The finish is long, harmonious, and perfumed, echoing with red fruit, florals, and Monvigliero’s signature peppery-mineral delicacy.

A stunning 2018 Monvigliero — graceful, complex, and aromatically captivating, offering both immediate charm and 20–30 years of graceful evolution.
