Probably the greatest Lanson I have tasted. The wine is almost heroic in its dimensions, and amazingly vital in its color and mousse. The nose opens slowly to reveal all the colors of the rainbow. The Champagne is very masculine, with nuances of juniper and Havana cigars. The wine is astoundingly heavy and full bodied, with the same aromas as the nose. The finish is a textbook example of the vintage: very dry and tough, fiery and rich in tannin. Lovely at the Millennium Tasting. Certain bottles breathe—strangely enough—young, floral Chardonnay.
