The Story

The grapes producing "De L'Orée" come from the plot "Les Murets" in the Eastern part of the hill. The soil was formed by alluvium deposited by the Rhône and Isère Rivers during the Ice Age. It comprises of a mixture of rolled pebbles and sand. The old vines (70 years old) guarantee low yields of high quality grapes. De L'Orée is always a great critical favourite. Its Marsanne, so intense due to low yields and high ripeness, handles barrel fermentation without leaving overt oak tones. An amazing wine over time, its qualities of white fruit, honeysuckle, quince, hazelnut continue to awe all observers. It is one of the longest living dry white wines in France.

Grape variety: Marsanne from 60 to 70 year old vines. Guarantees the high quality of this wine.

Soil: The grapes producing « De l'Orée » come from the plot « Les Murets » on a chalky-limestone soil.

Harvesting: Hand harvesting at advanced maturity

Vinification: After pressing, the must is cold-racked for 24 hours. About 50 % is vinified in new casks, the rest in vats.

Maturing: Organoleptic tests are carried out by frequent tastings to determine how long it should remain in casks before bottling.

Ageing potential: +25 years

Matching food: Seafood (crayfish & lobster). Foie gras. White meat and creamy sauce. Curry and spicy dishes. Goat's cheese, blue cheese.

Written Notes

100% Marsanne from Les Murets.
Beautiful golden colour. Still in prime condition on the nose: tropical, buttery, pineapple, crystallised ginger and honeysuckle. It has heat without fire, and is wonderfully treacly in texture. The finish transforms into a more savoury note with toasted nut and earthiness. Beautifully rendered. Large in every dimension, yet remains in proportion. (RH)
