A cool, wet summer in Germany, saved by late warmth in September and October. Yields were overall in line with long term averages, although the Mosel lost up to 25% of its crop. Quality is widely agreed to be very good indeed, and dry Riesling as well as Spätburgunder managed to flatter early, but could be found lacking in acidity. To be drunk sooner rather than later. Noble sweet wines are in even smaller supply than usual.

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, fruity, minerals and ever so slightly spicy nose. Fresh acidity, lively, fruity and elegant, a bit lean finish. 88
Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is green-yellow, and looking bright and light. On the nose it is open, youthful and fresh. The taste is fresh, ripe, and dry, and high in acidity, medium-bodied, with perfectly balanced, well-structured, concentrated structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has herbs, tropical fruits, mineral and spice flavours. The finish is long, lingering and spicy. This wine is sophisticated, fine and excellent. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 1h before tasting.
