The Story

Tignanello is produced exclusively from the vineyard of the same name, a parcel of some 140 acres (57 hectares) with limestone-rich soils and a southwestern exposure at 1150-1325 feet (350-400 meters) above sea level at the Tignanello estate. Written Notes

The 2015 Tignanello is a wine that opens, like a fully blossomed rose, right in front of you. This vintage is immediately accessible, generous and opulent. The wine will surely flesh out and gain focus with more bottle age, but one of the best qualities of this vintage is just how beautiful the wine tastes straight out of the gate. The fruit is beautifully ripe with fresh blackberry and cherry nuances, spice, leather, sweet tobacco and smoke. Up until this vintage, the various blending components that make up Tignanello were vinifed in separate lots. Starting with 2015, the wine is blended sooner in order to achieve better overall integration. The entire Tignanello estate counts 130 hectares of vines, but the single-vineyard "Tignanello" that makes this wine is 57 hectares.

Luscious cherries and tart berries dance against a backdrop of new saddle leather, freshly pressed herbs, violet petals, warm baking spices, cigar wrapper and wisps of vanilla, cocoa powder and smoke in this gracious ’15 Chianti Classico Riserva. This wine balances its sweet inner perfume with vivid acidity and lots of fine-grained, polished tannins; a sturdy mineral core reverberates on the lingering, extended finish. A product of its lovely growing season, this ’15 Chianti Classico shows exquisite balance between its bright acidity and sweet, succulent fruit, as well as lovely structure for the long haul. A blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes derive from Antinori’s Tenuta Tignanello estate in the Chianti Classico production zone. The grapes for this wine ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel for about ten days; the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in French oak, and it ages for 14 months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak, followed by a year in bottle.
