Written Notes

This 1958 vintage dates back to the ”dark period” in Vega Sicilia’s glorious history. The farm was purchased in 1952 by the Prodes seed company, who evitably were more interested in the farming operation than wines. The difficult Prodes period lasted until 1966, but even on those financially tight times magnificent wines were born: Medium-deep developing garnet colour. The slightly volatile nose is tart, with sour cherries, chemical nuances and earthy tones. The wine opened up magnificently in the glass revealing aromas of salted licorice and raisins. Lively velvety mouth-feel with warming alcohol influence. This wine has passed its peak but it will keep moderately well for a number of years.
