The epitome of bottle-aged Port.

Not declared. An under the radar wine. After tonight there will be only 69 bottles left. Charles Symington, Peter’s son, was born in 1969. Very low yields. And it followed three great vintages in the 1960s. Johnny Symington said ‘we call Douro Superior "Cockburn country". The history of this region is very important to Cockburn’s. They dominated this area in the mid 20th century. In 1985 we bought our first very small Quinta in that area. By 2006 that north bank of Douro Superior was about 50% Cockburn’s and 50% Symington’s. Now about 95% of grapes from those 250 ha come to Symington’s’. They buy 140 of 143 farmers’ grapes.
Notably pale ruby. September rains were just a little too emphatic in Cima Corgo but it doesn’t taste as though Douro Superior got as much rain. Smells very sweet and beguiling. Spicy and structured with a little more acid and tannin than the 1977 but not too overshadowed by it. May never be really mellow but it’s definitely sweet.
