The Story

Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are basically made from grapes from tempranillo vines planted before de 70’s, grown in the best clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety withstands oak- and bottle ageing well thanks to its good balance of acidity and fine tannin. The Graciano and Mazuelo varieties, whose presence in the blend does not exceed 10%, provide crispness and a lively colour. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temp...

Written Notes

Ruby. Red berries, spices, anise, bit of alcohol, touch floral, elegant in a way but maybe not fully seductive. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, structured, red fruits, blueberries, vanilla and spices, touch sweet and sour. 92

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is brick red, and looking evolved and deep. On the nose it is open, youthful, complex and generous. The taste is round, focused, toasty, vivid, firm, and dry, with high tannin ., with drying tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with balanced structure and youthful. On the palate it is layered and has smoky, toasty and blackberry flavours. The finish is long, spicy and vibrant. This wine is beauty. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
