The Story

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are grown in vineyards planted on white soil which is rich in limestone, firm clay and stones.

The two varieties are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak and further 6 months in concrete vessels, they are blended and aged for several months in the bottle before being released.

Written Notes

In the coastal vineyards of Bolgheri, winter was cold and wet, saturating the soils and setting a serious, almost austere tone for the season ahead. When spring arrived, it did not bring immediate relief—cool temperatures lingered, slowing the vines and delaying their early growth. There was a sense that this would not be an easy or straightforward year.

Flowering came later than usual, under conditions that required patience. The vines progressed cautiously, never rushed, never pushed. It was a slow unfolding, where timing would matter more than ever.

Summer, when it finally settled in, remained moderate rather than hot. There were no extremes—no heat spikes to accelerate ripening, no dramatic events to define the vintage. Instead, the season moved at a measured pace, shaped by steady warmth and the constant influence of cooling maritime breezes. The grapes developed gradually, holding onto acidity while building structure and aromatic complexity.

By the time harvest approached, the defining character of the vintage had become clear: late, slow, and precise.

Growers waited. There was no abundance of sugar or overt richness to rely on—ripeness had to be judged carefully, balancing phenolic maturity with the naturally high acidity preserved throughout the season. Picking decisions were critical, and those who chose wisely were rewarded with fruit of remarkable clarity and tension.

And that tension defines the wine.

In the glass, Camarcanda 2010 feels composed, linear, and quietly powerful. It does not show the immediate generosity of warmer years, nor the effortless harmony of benchmark vintages like 2016. Instead, it offers something more classical—structure, freshness, and restraint.

The fruit leans toward the darker, cooler spectrum, framed by firm tannins and lifted by vibrant acidity. There is a sense of architecture here, of lines and angles rather than curves. It is a wine that builds slowly across the palate, revealing layers of minerality, spice, and savory complexity.

This is not a vintage that speaks loudly in its youth. It is introspective, even at first, asking for time and attention. But with patience, it unfolds into something deeply compelling—refined, balanced, and enduring.

Camarcanda 2010 is, in essence, a story of discipline. A year where nature withheld easy ripeness and instead rewarded those who waited, observed, and understood.

It stands as a reminder that greatness does not always come from abundance—sometimes, it comes from restraint, precision, and the quiet confidence to let time do its work.
