The Story

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are grown in vineyards planted on white soil which is rich in limestone, firm clay and stones.

The two varieties are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak and further 6 months in concrete vessels, they are blended and aged for several months in the bottle before being released.

Written Notes

In Bolgheri, winter was steady and restorative, with sufficient rainfall to replenish the soils after the previous season. There was nothing extreme, nothing alarming—just the kind of balanced that growers hope for but rarely fully trust at first.

Spring followed with calm, even conditions. Budbreak was regular, flowering successful, and the vines advanced without interruption. It was one of those rare years where nature seemed to remove obstacles rather than present them. The vineyards settled into a smooth, uninterrupted rhythm, building potential almost effortlessly.

Summer brought warmth, but never excess. Sunlight was abundant, yet tempered by cooling coastal breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea. Crucially, the diurnal shifts—warm days and cooler nights—allowed the grapes to ripen slowly while preserving freshness, aromatic precision, and acidity. There was no rush, no stress, only a long, patient accumulation of complexity.

As harvest approached, the season revealed its true greatness.

Conditions remained stable and dry, giving growers the luxury of time. Picking could be done parcel by parcel, exactly at optimal ripeness. Tannins reached full phenolic maturity, sugars were perfectly balanced by acidity, and flavors developed with remarkable clarity. It was a harvest defined by confidence and control, where every decision felt deliberate rather than reactive.

And so, 2016 became a benchmark.

In the glass, the wine tells that story with striking clarity. It combines power and precision in equal measure—dense yet weightless, structured yet refined. The fruit is deep and pure, the tannins firm but exquisitely polished, and the acidity carries everything forward with energy and lift.

There is a sense of completeness to the wine, as if nothing is missing and nothing is out of place. Unlike more dramatic vintages shaped by extremes, 2016 derives its greatness from harmony. Every element—fruit, structure, freshness, and oak—exists in perfect proportion.

This is not a vintage that needs to prove itself loudly. Its authority is quiet, almost effortless. It unfolds gradually, revealing layers with calm assurance rather than force.

Camarcanda 2016 is, in essence, a story of alignment—when climate, vine, and timing all move in sync. A year where nature allowed winemakers to guide rather than intervene.

And because of that, it stands as one of the most complete and timeless expressions of the estate: a wine built not just to impress, but to endure.
