The Story

The blend: 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah, 10% Sangivoese

The vineyards are focussed in Bolgheri and the neighbouring area of Bibbona, with vines mainly planted on dark soils full of lime and clay.

The grapes were handled with particular care with extremely soft pressing of the bunches and helping to shorten the maceration process. The three varieties ferment and macerate separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak, they are b...

Written Notes

In the rolling landscape of Bolgheri, winter was steady and restorative, with enough rainfall to refill the soils but no excess to disrupt the vines’ natural rhythm. The season opened with a sense of order—quiet, even, and methodical.

Spring followed in much the same spirit. Budbreak was uniform, growth was consistent, and the vineyards moved forward without stress. For Promis—always a wine that sits between freshness and structure—this kind of stability set the tone for a vintage that would favor harmony over extremes.

As summer arrived, warmth gradually built, but it never became excessive. Instead, it lingered in a controlled, Mediterranean register: sunlit days, cooling sea breezes, and nights that preserved acidity and aromatic definition. The vines responded with measured ripening, producing fruit that felt balanced rather than pushed.

What stands out in a year like 2024 is not intensity, but equilibrium. The Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese that typically form the backbone of Promis developed at a similar pace, allowing for a natural sense of integration even before harvest began. Nothing dominated; everything aligned.

By harvest time, the decisions were about timing and nuance rather than urgency. Growers aimed to capture the moment where ripeness and freshness intersected—where fruit expression is full but still lifted, and tannins are ripe without becoming heavy.

And so, Promis 2024 becomes a story of balance achieved early.

In the glass, it is expected to show a smooth and inviting profile: ripe red and dark berries, plum, and cherry, framed by gentle spice, soft herbs, and a subtle earthy undertone. The texture leans toward silkiness, with supple tannins and a fresh backbone that keeps the wine energetic rather than dense.

Unlike more structured or brooding vintages, 2024 is likely to speak openly from early on. It does not hide behind tight architecture, nor does it aim for opulence. Instead, it offers immediacy—clarity of fruit, gentle depth, and a polished, approachable character.

Promis 2024 is, in essence, a story of integration without effort. A vintage where components come together naturally, without needing time to force cohesion.

It reminds us that sometimes the most satisfying wines are not those that demand patience or attention, but those that simply feel right in the moment—balanced, fluid, and quietly complete.
