Wolf Blass and David Bromley team up to release collectable wine series

Globally renowned winery Wolf Blass and acclaimed Australian artist David Bromley have once again joined creative forces, this time to release a stunning new wine series – Bromley by Wolf Blass – which hits stores in October.

Bromley by Wolf Blass is a celebration of two South Australian identities that are innovators in their fields – Wolfgang Blass in wine and David Bromley in art. Inspired by Wolfgang’s world-famous wines and Bromley’s most coveted collections, Bromley by Wolf Blass strikes a harmonious balance between pleasing the eye and the palate.

The collection will feature some of Bromley’s most recognised art on the labels – from his Birds, Nudes and Butterflies series – providing the opportunity to buy into both the art and wine at an affordable price.

Bromley has enjoyed the creative process of this new project.

“There are so many beautiful synergies across the art and wine worlds, and Bromley by Wolf Blass seemed like the next natural step in mine and Wolfgang’s enduring partnership,” he said.

“Both wine and art bring such joy to people’s lives; this is a collaboration in the truest sense and I’m thrilled with the result – a range of premium, beautifully packaged wines which make wonderful gifts or statement pieces for your home.”

In 2014, Bromley commemorated Blass’s 80th birthday by painting his portrait, which was entered into the Archibald prize. In 2015, Bromley was appointed Creative Director of the Wolf Blass Birdcage marquee.

The Bromley by Wolf Blass collection is available at Dan Murphy’s and other fine wine retailers from mid-October 2016 until sold out.

Australian winery Wolf Blass named ‘Red Winemaker of the Year’ at global wine competition

Leading Australian winery, Wolf Blass, was named ‘Red Winemaker of the Year’ at last night’s prestigious International Wine Challenge in London. It’s a triple treat for Wolf Blass, being awarded this accolade for the third time following wins in 2008 and 2013.

In its 33rd year, the International Wine Challenge (IWC) is recognised as one of the world’s finest, most meticulously judged and influential wine competitions. Wolf Blass came out on top ahead of 15,000 entries from more than 50 countries, demonstrating their strength and consistency of winemaking across wine styles. Wolf Blass Chief Winemaker, Chris Hatcher, is humbled to receive this award for the third time on behalf of the winery.

“Being named Red Winemaker of the Year for the third time is humbling. It is a great triumph for Wolf Blass, reinforcing our reputation as one of Australia's truly iconic winemakers with a strong history of major global award wins.

“Wolf Blass is renowned for making wines of ‘Quality, Character and Consistency’ and this accolade cements this; given wines across our entire range contributed to this outstanding win.”

Wine Australia CEO, Andreas Clark said Wolf Blass’ win reflects the high regard that the international wine community has for Australian fine wine. “I offer my congratulations to Chris, Steven and the entire Wolf Blass team on this exceptional win, made even more impressive by the fact that it’s the third time Wolf Blass has earned the title.

“In this year’s International Wine Challenge, Australian wine took home 815 medals, a testament to the high quality of Australian wine and the talent of our grapegrowers and winemakers. The world is taking notice of Australia and appreciates the great diversity of our wines and regions.”

The IWC assesses every wine blind and judges each for its faithfulness to style, region and vintage. Throughout the rigorous judging processes, each medal-winning wine is tasted on three separate occasions by at least 10 different judges and awards including medals (Trophy, Gold, Silver, Bronze) and Commended and Great Value awards.

Historia

In 1969 Wolfgang Blass purchased a 2.5 acre landholding in South Australia. Four years later, Wolf Blass Wines was born with the first vintage of Wolf Blass Black Label. From humble beginnings in a tin shed in the Barossa Valley, Wolf Blass Wines is now one of the most successful and awarded wineries in Australia.

The piece of land happened to be on Bilyara Road and when researching the name, Wolf discovered that it is the Aboriginal name for “Eaglehawk”. As the eagle is also the national emblem of Germany, Wolf’s homeland, he decided that the Eagle would also appear on all of his wines – a legacy that continues today.

In 1974 Wolf Blass Black Label won the highly coveted Jimmy Watson Trophy from the Melbourne Wine Show, the first of three consecutive wins, generating substantial publicity and hype. In 1999, Wolf Blass Black Label made history, becoming the only wine to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy an unprecedented four times.

Since then, growth has been impressive and inspiring with Wolf Blass winning more than 3,000 awards at national and international wine shows, including most recently, International Red Winemaker of the Year at the 2008 International Wine Challenge in London.

Today, Wolf Blass wines are exported to more than 50 countries and the Wolf Blass brand is recognised internationally as a producer of premium wines.
