History

The vision behind IXSIR is unique: reveal the best terroirs of Lebanon, some forgotten long since, while respecting sustainable development and integrated viticulture.

IXSIR cultivates grapes in areas carefully chosen for their high quality potential, in regions as diverse as Lebanon itself, stretching from Batroun in the North to Jezzine in the South, and nestling beside the most beautiful hillsides of the Bekaa.

Wine making and aging take place in a central winery located on the hills of Batroun, giving birth to unique wines, the perfect marriage between the subtle and the complex. The name IXSIR derives from “Iksir”, the original Arabic word for “Elixir”, a word comm on to many languages, defining the purest form of all substances, a secret potion that grants eternal youth and love. IXSIR is the fruition of a partnership between friends who share the same passion for wine, Lebanon, and the dream of associating the nam e of a prominent wine to their fatherland.

Winemaking

Gabriel Rivero is an experienced Spanish winemaker and oenologist. He started his career in Bordeaux, where he worked for 12 years as a winemaker in several estates, leading up to a nine-year stint as the Winemaker of the famous Château Sociando-Mallet. He then moved to Lebanon, where he worked for six years as Technical Director of one of the most famous wine estates in the country and became a renowned expert in Lebanese terroirs. One of the pillars of IXSIR, Gabriel acts as Technical Director.

Hubert De Boüard is an internationally renowned wine consultant and the co-owner and manager of the famous Château Angélus (1er Grand Cru Classé) in Saint Emilion, Bordeaux. Chateau Angelus is widely recognized today as one of Saint Emilion’s flagship wines, reflecting the commitment of the De Boüard family to the essence of its terroir. Hubert is also the owner of Château La Fleur de Boüard. In 1999, he was elected president of the Syndicat Viticole de Saint Emilion. He is also a member of the Comité National de l'Institut des Appellations. Hubert is the Consultant Winemaker for IXSIR.
