As the heirs of Joseph Perrier we continue his search for excellence. Our experience and “savoir-faire” has been passed down and refined through the five generations who have owned and controlled this family House.
All our 21 hectares are beautifully situated on south facing slopes of the vineyards overlooking the Marne river-planted with the three classic grapes Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
We maintain a close relationship with the environment - respecting nature so that the champagnes fully express their natural potential after long and gentle ageing. Our champagnes lie quietly under the arboretum which has been planted on the hill over the cellars to help naturally regulate the environment.
With our view of history and of the future, we treat our vineyards with the utmost respect. We were enthusiastic early adopters of a culture of reducing inputs to a minimum, searching for equilibrium and balance. We have encouraged the growth of indigenous wildflowers along the edge of the vineyards.
Following expansion of the original Gallo-Roman galleries, the cellars now extend for around three kilometres deep into the hill, illuminated by the shafts wich bring in the gentle natural light and ventilation. The bottles lie horizontally “sur lattes” and in the pupitres throughout the galleries in perfect conditions of constant temperature and light. These start immediately behind the winery and the labelling hall.
Our objective is not to increase the yields in so doing, rather to use the minimum necessary to improve the health and balance in the vineyards, always being careful to study and create a programme for each parcel individually.
Joseph Perrier has always been connected with history, on occasions which have been both high profile and private. The House has always celebrated human achievements, from the inauguration of Concorde in 1976 and more recently the presentation of the Nobel prize for medicine. The « Cuvées Royales » celebrate the relelation-ship with Queen Victoria and King Edward VII, a distinction we still proudly feature on the labels today.
100 Best Champagnes 2022 tasting – day 1 behind. Very solid line-up with a handful of super gems! Cuvée R. Lalou 2006 (96p) is still hard to beat although Comtes de Champagne 2011 (95p) did well despite the challenging vintage. Armand de Brignac Brut Rosé (93p) was the best rosé ACE I recall having. For roses, Charles Heidsieck Rosé Réserve NV (94p) is superb find for the value!

Cristal 1971 / Moderately pale golden yellow colour. Persistent, intense and elegant nose with great depth by autolysis characters, brioche and hints of dried apricots. Very crisp palate with vivid mousse and persistent lemony flavours with dried fruits. Wonderful yeasty character adding extra structure. Long lingering mineral finish. Beautiful balance and harmony. Just pure enjoyment! 98p

Amazing 'The Best Champagnes from the 1980s' blind tasting proved how great champagne decade it was. For 45 champagnes my average scores were 93.3! I rated only four champagnes below 90 points. So many 95+ points champagnes and one that stole the show – Billecart-Salmon with three magnificent champagnes on the top.
