The Story

The Château Lafite estate run by the Rothschilds is, with its 100 hectares of cultivated land, the largest of the main Pauillac vineyards.

It is located in the highest part of the area and the view from its château, with its conical towers that appear on the label, takes in the banks of the River Gironde, which flows nearby. The wines are a blend of four different varieties of grape – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petite Verdot and Cabernet F...

Wine Information

Top-shoulder, decanted 30 minutes before tasting. A Deep, dark, hale and hearty looking colour. Enormously rich and ripe nose with some sweetness and black fruit. Opened instantly, in addition faded almost straight away. It only lasted 15 minutes in the glass, but during that short time the wine was exceptional. It reminded me a lot of Clos Vougeot 1821, which acted in exactly the same way and was also an amazing wine during those few moments....

Those 15 minutes were glorious and lifelong– This 1874 Lafite had a fabulous complexity and intensity, and at the same time it was a very sensitive and fragile wine. What a sophisticated and refined moment. I was very fortunate to share this unique moment with my best friends – a grand moment, grand wine.
