The Story

This great château is located on the plateau of Pomerol next to its famous neighbours Château LAFLEUR and Château PETRUS. It was acquired by Ets. Jean- Pierre MOUEIX in 1953.
Today the estate is composed 90% of Merlot with an average vine age of 30 years and 10% of Cabernet Franc with an average vine age of 50 years.  Christian Moueix' obsessive work in the vineyard focuses on sap flow and the treatment of each vine individually.  In the cellar, vinifications are extremely precise but quite traditional: vinification in cement and stainless steel, aging in oak barriques for 18-22 months (usually ~50% new oak).

Vintage 2010

Drought and cool temperatures contribute to optimal ripeness

The sum of summer temperatures in 2010 was close to that of summer 2009 (962°C compared to 982°C), but decidedly chillier than those of 2005, which totalled 1052°C. These cool temperatures had a substantial influence on the balance of our wines, preserving a good level of acidity and attractive aromatic freshness. 

Very little rainfall (only 267 mm) from March to August 2010 generating a drought of similar intensity to that of 2005, when only 227mm of rain fell. 

Another feature of the 2010 vintage is the low temperatures above all in the first three weeks of August, which made for the preservation of good levels of acidity in the grapes while also maintaining attractive aromatic freshness.

Written Notes

Elegant nose. Espresso, ripe blackberries, blueberries, herbs, bitter chocolate. Full bodied, juicy, sweet tannin, good structure, fine acidity, very powerful, blackberry liqueur, ripe raspberries, truffles, nougat in the finish, long. Very hedonistic style.

It has a deep garnet-purple color and opens with notions of plum preserves, Black Forest cake, red cherry compote and black raspberries with touches of menthol, chocolate box, licorice and tobacco leaf. Medium to full-bodied, the palate features fantastically ripe, velvety tannins and beautiful freshness, lifting the generous, brightly fruited mid-palate and giving bags of energy to the very long-lingering, minerally finish.

The swirling exhales a large palette of fresh blackcurrant, raspberry and smashed blackberry. A fresh cedar of Lebanon note concludes the olfactory examination. 
The attack is ample, bold and leads to a solid mid-palate. The wine is round carried by a strong tannic structure that is fine on the finish.

This Pomerol displays a dark red colour and offers a remarkable intensity of scrumptious, fresh dark fruits. It gives off pleasant mocha, raspberry, wild strawberry and black cherry notes. Precise, frank and elegant, the palate offers a strong attack with a good concentration of distinguished, ripped, creamy and silky tannins. The finish remains fresh on the whole which gives a character of aromatic richness to this 2010 Pomerol
