96-98+ points Parker: "A mind-boggling effort, this is the finest La Fleur Petrus I have ever tasted. Layers and layers of black raspberry and black currant fruit intermixed with licorice, truffles, and earth are found in this dense ruby/purple-colored elixir. With extraordinary purity, decent acidity, melted tannins, and massive fruit..." (04/10) 97 points Suckling: "A wine that is extremely perfumed, with flowers and berries and hints of min...

The Story

This great château is located on the plateau of Pomerol next to its famous neighbours Château LAFLEUR and Château PETRUS. It was acquired by Ets. Jean- Pierre MOUEIX in 1953.
Today the estate is composed 90% of Merlot with an average vine age of 30 years and 10% of Cabernet Franc with an average vine age of 50 years.  Christian Moueix' obsessive work in the vineyard focuses on sap flow and the treatment of each vine individually.  In the cell...

This great château is located on the plateau of Pomerol next to its famous neighbours Château LAFLEUR and Château PETRUS. It was acquired by Ets. Jean- Pierre MOUEIX in 1953.
A unique opportunity occurred in 1994 when Ets. Jean-Pierre MOUEIX acquired from Miss Marie ROBIN (also the owner at the time of Château LAFLEUR) a 10- acres block originally belonging to Château LE GAY and spreading over a wonderful hillock facing Château LAFLEUR. On th...

Vintage 2009

Much like 1947, 1961 and 2005, 2009 is a year of almost overly (for Bordeaux) flamboyant and opulent wines with high maturity and low acidity. The tannins are exceptionally ripe, while the wines are quite voluptuous in style. The Left Bank recorded more hours of sunshine than legendary vintages such as 1947 and 1982, and the grapes had higher sugar concentrations than in 2003 and 2005. The key was significant diurnal temperature variations tha...

Written Notes

Lovely nose, rich smoky loganberry fruit, majorly on red fruits, this is quite ripe and evolved. A hint of coconut shows the wood. Really clear precise fruit on the nose. Creamy and tight, elegant nice and spicy here, good grip and length. Not seemingly excessive tannin, succulent. Delicious brambly claret. On reassessment this appears the most evolved, dark chocolate at the end.

Ruby. Scented, layered, little bit woody up front, behind layeres of dark fruits, rich and intense yet nuanced nose, floral notes and fine tobacco. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, fruity, rich and refreshing, bit woody still but fruit to handle, rich but never warm, it's showing more details than before, long. 94
