The Story

The power and elegance of a great Pauillac. Daring, innovative and known for often being the last to harvest, Jean-Charles Cazes defined the style of Lynch-Bages in the 1930's. The wine's distinctive character earns it its place amongst Pauillac's greatest. It combines structure, finesse and elegance. It is generous in its youth and develops more complex aromas with bottle age.

Written Notes

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot.
Black almost to the rim. So dark the aroma is quite subdued but there's cassis and rocky purity. Extremely firm, thick, compact. A wall of tannins now, almost impassable, but there's a sense of balance, and a need for great patience. (JH)

Lynch Bages – 70% Cabernet Sauvignon + 24% Merlot + 3% Cabernet Franc + 3% Petit Verdot, 75% new oak. Gentle effort in 2019 and sheer delight for one's taste buds with creamy berries and sweet tannin in every "corner". Silky texture yet quite fleshy and with splendid structure. Finishes well with a long lingering finish. 94p.

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Densely woven nose with ripe berries in a quite classic style, blackcurrant, elderberries and blackberries. Subtle oak and mild spices in the background. On the palate well structured and balanced with good concentration and depth, very convincing length and promising potential.
