The Story

Artistic wine is an expression of man's harmony with nature. The winegrower's art begins by finding a great site, then balancing the vine to the site, the fruit to the vine, the winemaking to the fruit and ultimately the wine to the table; all for the purpose of enhancing a great meal.

Written Notes

The 2020 growing season in Napa Valley will be remembered for its challenges—low yields, heat events, and the pressures of wildfire. However, high-elevation sites such as Sage Mountain on Pritchard Hill—where Continuum is grown at 1,300–1,600 feet—benefited from clean air flow, long exposure, and cooler nighttime temperatures, protecting fruit integrity. The vintage produced small berries, thick skins, and remarkable concentration, yet the cooler evenings preserved freshness, aromatic lift, and fine-grained tannins.

For Continuum, 2020 yielded a wine of purity, focus, and impressive structural poise, demonstrating how exceptional terroir rises above vintage adversity.

The Continuum 2020 is a beautifully sculpted mountain wine—intense, perfumed, and layered, with a seamless interplay of power and elegance. The nose opens with striking purity, offering an aromatic tapestry of blackcurrant, Bing cherry, wild blueberry, and plum skin, intertwined with notes of violet, graphite, crushed stone, and warm sage. Subtle undertones of cocoa nib, cedar shavings, incense, and black tea add depth and complexity.

On the palate, the wine is vibrant, concentrated, and superbly balanced, driven by a spine of finely etched, mineral-laden tannins. A focused core of dark mountain fruit—cassis, blackberry, and mulberry—unfolds gracefully, supported by lively natural acidity that gives the wine lift and precision. Hints of anise, espresso, savory herbs, and volcanic earth layer across the mid-palate, reinforcing the Pritchard Hill signature. The finish is long, resonant, and quietly powerful, echoing graphite, dark fruit, and stone.

A standout Continuum—refined, architectural, and deeply expressive of its site, capturing the essence of the 2020 vintage with remarkable finesse. It will gain complexity and harmony over the next 12–20+ years, rewarding patience while already offering beautiful clarity and aromatic detail.
