You really have to love the names Chester and his team concoct. I had visions of the name commemorating an irate customer smashing his fish dinner when someone either did or didn’t serve a Savvy with it (Savvy is such a love-it-or-hate-it grape that it could be either). Sadly not. Apparently, ‘fishplate’ is also the name for the nylon plates on a harvester which collect the bunches of grapes and they have a tendency to break if the vineyard is too steep or difficult. Personally, I'd stick with the irate customer explanation. 

Sourced from the Adelaide Hills, our premier region for this variety, the grapes are gently crushed and chilled, before they are transferred to stainless steel basket presses. The team partially ferment a small percentage of the grapes in older French oak for two to three weeks, to increase the mouthfeel and complexity of the wine. 

Pale straw in colour, the nose offers dry herbs, hints of grass cuttings, melon, citrus and gooseberries and some all-round herbaceousness. Even a touch of the tropicals. A slight mineral backing, there is vibrant acidity. There is a pleasing juicy note to this, bright flavours and attractive length. One for drinking now. 88.
