The Story

A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are grown in vineyards planted on white soil which is rich in limestone, firm clay and stones.

The two varieties are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak and further 6 months in concrete vessels, they are blended and aged for several months in the bottle before being released.

Written Notes

In the vineyards of Bolgheri, winter was mild and early signs of spring arrived quickly. The vines woke up ahead of schedule, and from the very beginning, the rhythm of the season felt accelerated. There was a sense that nature was moving fast—and would not slow down.

Then came summer, and with it, intensity.

Warmth built steadily and remained persistent through the growing season. Days were hot, skies often clear, and the vines worked under sustained sunlight. Unlike cooler years where ripening unfolds gradually, 2007 pushed the fruit forward with urgency. Sugar accumulation came easily, and phenolic maturity followed in quick succession.

There were moments when the balance had to be carefully managed. In a year like this, the challenge is not ripeness—but control. Harvest decisions became critical, as picking too late risked over-concentration, while early picking meant sacrificing depth. The best parcels were selected with precision, aiming to preserve freshness in a naturally generous vintage.

And so, 2007 became a wine of sun and ripeness.

In the glass, Camarcanda 2007 is open, expressive, and immediately generous. The fruit is dark, ripe, and slightly opulent, leaning toward black cherry, plum, and fig-like richness. The structure is present, but more supple and rounded than in cooler, more linear vintages. Tannins are softer, more polished by heat and time, and acidity plays a supporting rather than driving role.

There is a warmth to the wine—both in flavor and texture. Spice, cocoa, and sweet tobacco notes emerge alongside ripe fruit, giving it an almost Mediterranean generosity. Oak is integrated but slightly more noticeable, blending into the natural richness of the vintage.

Unlike the tension of 2010 or the precision of 2016, 2007 does not hold back. It offers itself more openly, more immediately, with less need for contemplation.

Camarcanda 2007 is, in essence, a story of abundance. A year where nature provided generosity in full measure, and the challenge was to shape that generosity into balance.

It is a vintage defined not by restraint or precision, but by warmth, ripeness, and early expression—a snapshot of Bolgheri under a more Mediterranean sun, where power arrived naturally, and elegance had to be found within it.
