The Story

In 2011, Coppola successfully reclaimed the Inglenook trademark so that his Rubicon Estate in Rutherford could revert back to its historic original name.

Written Notes

The 1966 Inglenook Cask F 29, is one of the most breathtaking old Napa Valley wines I have had in recent times. Its older brothers the 1938 and 1943 Inglenook were the oldest I have ever had from this estate (see my notes about these extraordinary bottles!). But the '66 Cask F29 was utterly stunning. Soft velvet tannins, the fading glory of once opulent stewed red fruits still had glorious underlying acidity, like a fine strawberry compote. Like underripe mulberry jelly a little bit was the only hint of purple fruit notes. The cedar wood and redwood aromatics were completely enchanting as well, most likely again from the full redwood fermentation tanks that John Daniel was still using at this time. Magic. Paid $279 for this bottle, and it trumped the 1975 Haut Brion in the side=by-side tasting that night with our (my fiance Kathryn Marie) friends Denis and MayBritt Malbec and the King of Sweden Kurt-Inge Eklund.
