The Story

The grapes which go to make this wine are from south easterly facing parcels on the hill of Corton, namely Clos du Roi, Les Bressandes, Les Grèves, Les Perrières. Written Notes

Please note: This is for 1978 Château Corton Grancey.

From Magnum, level 4,2 cm below cork.

Colour very light, no red left, brownish but not cloudy. Never judge an old Burgundy by its colour as even the lightest coloured Pinot Noir may have intense fruit and freshness. This wine from the famous 1978 vintage is still alive and develops nicely in the glass for about an hour before its fruit slowly fades. At first the bouquet shows herbs, a certain austerity but warm and sweet notes as well. Medium-bodied, well-balanced, slightly sweet, the acidity never aggressive. A pleasure for those with experience with old Pinot Noir, others will not like the deficiency of fruit, but this 1978 is by no means dried out. Drink and enjoy now as this wine is in decline already.
