The Story

Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are basically made from grapes from tempranillo vines planted before de 70’s, grown in the best clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety withstands oak- and bottle ageing well thanks to its good balance of acidity and fine tannin. The Graciano and Mazuelo varieties, whose presence in the blend does not exceed 10%, provide crispness and a lively colour. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temp...

Written Notes

Marques de Riscal 1922 / 95 points/ Moderately intense, tawny bright colour. The nose is open with elegantly developed richness showing ripe dark fruits – plums, black currants and brambles, floral tones – violets, tobacco, mocha and hints of vanilla. The palate is rich and voluptuous. The texture is silky with lovely acidity, mellow tannins and ripe black fruits. Exquisite harmony and suppleness charmed by lingering long finish. Wonderful wine with powerful character, marvellous depth and great intensity suggesting it will keep still another 10-20 years. Amazing stuff!

Dark garnet red with brick red hue. Aromatic nose with hints of Amarena cherries, Ume plums, vanilla, canided berries. On the palate elegant sweetness, fine acidity and tannins, well balanced with excellent length. A slightly lighter style but aromatically persistent.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is brick red, and looking dark and deep. On the nose it is open, mature, refined, fresh, generous and charming. The taste is harmonious, focused, elegant, silky, vivid, refined, with medium tannin ., with silky tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied and with perfectly balanced structure. On the palate it is layered and has smoky, blackcurrant, toasty and perfumed flavours. The finish is long, lingering, vibrant and round. This wine is wonderful, impressive and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years and decant at least 15min before tasting.
