The Story

Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are basically made from grapes from tempranillo vines planted before de 70’s, grown in the best clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety withstands oak- and bottle ageing well thanks to its good balance of acidity and fine tannin. The Graciano and Mazuelo varieties, whose presence in the blend does not exceed 10%, provide crispness and a lively colour. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temp...

Written Notes

Ruby, garnet rim. Blueberries, anise, some leather, tobacco, some vanilla, spices, cherries. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, juicy, some blueberries, some spices, plums, elegant expression, leaner finish, long. Still textured. Going through some periods where it doesn't shine. It has been mentioned that the bottle might not be perfectly clean.   88

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is cherry red, and looking bright, dark and medium. On the nose it is open, youthful, intense, complex, ripe, generous and charming. The taste is focused, vivid, refined, with drying tannins, and average in acidity, with balanced and well-structured structure. On the palate it is layered and has blackberry, spice, floral, perfumed, violet and mineral flavours. The finish is long, flavorful and vibrant. This wine is sophisticated. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years.
