The Story

Of all the villages of the Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the most fruitful in terms of the number of its Grands Crus. The Clos de Tart, which remains a solely-held entity, was founded by the Cistercians of Tart in 1141. Written Notes

The 1954 Clos de Tart Grand Cru comes from a vintage that I have rarely tasted. It has an enticing bouquet, refined and pure, offering red cherries, strawberry and wild hedgerow, that becomes almost pastille-like with aeration. The palate is surprisingly clean and precise, not deep like the 1962, yet it lingers in the mouth, leaving a dab of spice on the tip of the tongue after it has departed. Drink soon, but still, a very pleasant surprise. Tasted at the Clos de Tart vertical at Ten Trinity in London.
