The Story

Of all the villages of the Côte de Nuits, Morey-Saint-Denis is one of the most fruitful in terms of the number of its Grands Crus. The Clos de Tart, which remains a solely-held entity, was founded by the Cistercians of Tart in 1141. Since that date, it has been owned by only three families. The Clos Saint-Denis came on the scene in the 11th century, thanks to the fortress of Vergy. Wine Information

There has been something almost Arthurian about the transformation of this great vineyard since the middle 1990s. Now, once more, is revealed the wonderful, aromatic purity of this wine, a palate of density and liquid silkiness, allied to a profundity which combines power with finesse and elegance.

Written Notes

There’s a fine sappy and herbal undergrowth note to the sweet cherry fruit nose. Fine palate with beautiful finesse: good structure, fine-grained and textural, showing red cherries, spice and plums. Beautiful balance here. Youthful and beginning to develop a savoury side. – Jamie Goode 96p (Oct 2015)

Medium to medium-full colour. Quite a substantial nose. Lots of fruit. No lack of oak. Plenty of depth. Fullish body. Here the oak doesn't dominate, to the wine's advantage. Rich, succulent, very harmonious and very classy. 18.5p
