The 2021 vintage in Kamptal is considered one of the region’s finest of the decade. A cool start to the season, followed by a long, sunny, but not excessively warm summer, produced wines of exceptional aromatic definition and precision. The long growing season ensured full ripeness with outstanding natural acidity. For Steinsetz, sourced from gravelly, alluvial soils on the Danube’s ancient terraces, 2021 yielded a wine of remarkable clarity, minerality, and tension.


The Schloss Gobelsburg Grüner Veltliner Steinsetz 2021 opens with a clean, vibrant bouquet. Aromas of green apple, white pepper, lime zest, and quince rise from the glass, supported by layers of fresh herbs, nettle, and subtle floral notes. Beneath the fruit and spice lies a distinct mineral edge, reflecting the gravelly soils that lend structure and precision.

On the palate, the wine is bright, focused, and finely textured. A core of citrus and orchard fruit is carried by brisk, beautifully integrated acidity that gives the wine lift and energy. The classic Grüner white pepper note is joined by hints of fennel, crushed stone, and gentle salinity, adding dimension and savory complexity. The mouthfeel is both firm and elegant, leading into a long, clean, and mineral-driven finish.

A superb Steinsetz that showcases the purity and tension of the 2021 vintage. This wine will evolve gracefully for six to ten years, gaining depth, spice, and subtle creaminess while preserving its lively structure.
