The Story

On a cold day in January 1983, Doug Shafer entered the family winery for the first time as winemaker. The future of Shafer Vineyards was an unknown back then. Doug’s father, John Shafer, had produced his first wine, 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon, which been on the market about 18 months. Written Notes

Good looking normal size bottle and in an perfect condition. Colour is purple, and looking clear and full. On the nose it is intense, seductive and complex. The taste is full, fresh, elegant, perfumed, and dry, high alcohol content, with medium tannin, with sweet tannins, and high in acidity, full-bodied, with multi-dimensional structure and developing. On the palate it is layered and has cassis, chocolate, earthy, blueberry, new-oak and balsamic flavours. The finish is long and round. This wine is outstanding. I paid around 50-100€ a bottle. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years, decant at least 30min before tasting and this is not a good invest wine. Good value for money. I do recommend.
