The Story

Cave Privée 1989 is made up of wines from 25 Grands and Premiers Crus from regions in the Montagne de Reims, the Grande Vallée de la Marne and the Côte des Blancs.

The blend: 66% Pinot Noir, 34% Chardonnay

Dosage: 6 g/l

Vintage report: 1989 marked the return of the hot, dry vintages, similar to the legendary years of 1945, 1959 and 1964. After very early budding, the vines suffered from a cold spell. On April 27, a severe spring frost...

Vintage 1989

Champagne: A warm vintage, where simply charming wines were produced. However, there was not enough heat throughout the year. Spring frosts killed some of the shoots, reducing the harvest by 20%. A pale gold. An array of ripe and dried fruits, saffron, sandalwood and eaux-de-vie come through in the bouquet. Fresh on the palate, this vintage is full of exotic spices, structure and character, with a remarkably long finish.

Containing grapes from 25 grands and premiers crus, this blend is two-thirds pinot noir (66%) and one-third chardonnay (34%). The first grapes were picked in the estate’s Côte des Blancs grands crus in early September; the pinot noir was left to ripen for a few additional days, resulting in concentrated, high-quality grapes.

Pale lemon yellow. Apples, minerals, fresh, fruity nose, some citrus nose. Fresh acidity, fresh, fruity, minerals, apples, elegant texture, bit sweet, long. 91
