Vintage 2009

Near-optimum rainfall over winter, followed by dry, mild conditions over spring provided a good environment for budburst and an ideal start to the growing season with canopies developing well. Climatic conditions favoured flowering and set with mild and calm weather, however there was some shatter in Shiraz across parts of the state resulting in small crops for many regions. Written Notes

A single vineyard cabernet that is part of the recent program. The first 'Glengyle' was 2007. This is the second. The vineyard was planted in 1969. There have been other single vineyard cabs in the range. 2001 saw the 'Harold Vineyard'; 2003 and 2004 both saw 'Johnson's Block' (they were shiraz cabs); 2005 the 'Messenger'; 2006 the 'Alex 88'; and 2008 the 'Davis'. This is a most impressive cabernet. There are some gentle oak notes – it did see 18 months in French barriques and hogsheads. This is more lush than some of the other wines from this year's releases. This vineyard ripened earlier than most vineyards and like others from 2009, offers more generosity and juicy flavours. Has lovely balance. Tobacco leaf and dry vegetation notes. Early complexity. Fresh acidity. A classic cab. Like it a lot.
