Sotheby’s $5m sale smashes records

The third and final instalment of the Don Stott fine wine sale in New York made $5.1m against a pre-sale high estimate of $2.8m. The three parts of the sale have now made a total of $19m.
Several wines set new records at the sale for the highest prices per bottle ever achieved at auction.
These included $4,083 a bottle for 1990 Chambertin from Armand Rousseau; $3,267 a bottle for Rousseau’s 1989 Clos de Beze; $14,292 a bottle for Domaine Georges Roumier’s 1971 Bonnes Mares and $10,208 a bottle for the 1993 Musigny.
The sale’s top lot was six bottles of 1971 Musigny from Georges Roumier, which sold for $83,750, followed by a 12-bottle case of 2005 Chambolle Musigny Les Amoureuses, which went for $73,500.
Other top lots included 1993 Musigny from Roumier, 1990 Chambertin from Rousseau, 2012 Romanée-Conti from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and 1971 Bonnes Mares and 2005 Musigny from Roumier.
