The Story

White wine production at Château Margaux goes back to the end of the XVII century. The cellar master at that time recounts how he was one of the first to separate the white grapes from the red during the vinification. Sold in the XIX century under the name « Château Margaux vin de sauvignon », it has existed under the brand name « Pavillon Blanc du Château Margaux » since 1920 and its label has not changed since that date.

Vintage 2015

Full report of Bordeaux 2015 by Andrew Caillard MW “Next in line in a great series of vintages; 2000, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2015.

2015 is a wonderful Bordeaux vintage without the hype or hysteria associated with 2009 and 2010. The wines are generally expressive and generous with wonderful concentration and structure. Given another year in barrel, the wines should gain more complexity and fruit volume. Châteaux, in all sub-regions, are e...

2015 Pavillon Blanc (barrel sample) 94p

Tasted in April 2016.  Small yield, only 20 hl/ha, 100% Sauvignon Blanc which reached 14% in alcohol (perfect ripeness). 2015 vintage is first one with organic treatment in the vineyard. Aromatic and fresh, significant scent of acacia and grapefruit, rich, refined and with great acidity. Awesomely long finish. Best Pavillon Blanc ever for me. 94p.

Creamy, vanilla, slightly oak, hint of toast, some white flowers, apple, some white currants and lemon. Very fresh and very good acidity, medium long finish. However I love the 2014 vintage more for Blanc. 92+

Bright yellow with green hue. Very elegant and fine nose, complex with fruit and spiciness. On the palate incredibly crisp for this vintage, excellent length, very elegant, vibrant fruit and minerality. Although the alcohol is above 14 Vol% the wine seems very digest, fresh, with an acidity balancing the alcohol in a perfect way.

Lemon lime grapefruit aromas ginger spice notes. Well concentrated grapefruit, lime lemon tonic water flavours, crisp acidity with juicy notes. Supple and voluminous with excellent length. 96 points.

Pavillon Blanc – 100% Sauvignon Blanc Open lemon and white flowers on the nose, intense, subtle too, the entry is soft, the lacy delicacy here is amazing, very ripe, great tension too, grapefruit on the finish. Really lovely mouthfeel flavour and persistence. Always a rigorous selection here only a third of the harvest making it into the first wine. The aim has been to pick a little earlier to clip the ripeness, reducing the alcohol and elevating the freshness through the acidity. Certainly a fine result again this year. 92/94/100 2020-2035
