The Story

GAJA's Ca' Marcanda Vistamare is a limited production white wine, based on a blend of grape varieties including Vermentino, Viognier and Fiano. The playful name of this wine was inspired by the sea breeze, sun, and cheerful and light-hearted outlook of the Tuscan coast. “Vistamare” means sea view and is often used by the coastal hoteliers to entice would-be guests, even though their rooms may only offer a limited view of the Mediterranean.

Wine Information

Pale yellow with green highlights. On the nose, the wine reveals a layered aromatic profile combining white spice, medicinal herbs, yellow flowers, and fresh pineapple. A light smoky reduction and well-integrated hints of vanilla add nuance and depth. On the palate, it offers medium body, crisp acidity, and good length. The finish recalls green almond, leaving a fresh, savory impression that enhances the wine’s sense of precision and cleanline...

Written Notes

In the coastal hills of Bolgheri, winter moved gently, leaving behind well-rested soils and a sense of quiet potential. Nothing about the beginning of the season suggested extremes—only balance, calm, and a steady reset of the vineyards after the previous cycle.

Spring arrived with clarity and brightness. The white varieties that define Vistamare—those aromatic, sun-sensitive grapes planted in breezier coastal parcels—responded quickly to the warming days. Budbreak was even, flowering smooth, and the canopy developed with a healthy openness, allowing air and light to move freely through the vines.

Early indications from the season point toward a year shaped by freshness rather than power. The maritime influence was present from the start, with cooling breezes moderating the sun’s intensity and preserving aromatic lift in the fruit. Where some years push ripeness forward, 2025 appears to have favored a slower, more measured evolution of flavor.

Summer unfolded with a sense of transparency. Days were bright, but not aggressive; nights remained cool enough to lock in acidity and preserve the wine’s defining tension. The grapes—Vermentino, Viognier, and other aromatic varieties typical of Vistamare’s blend—developed with an emphasis on clarity rather than concentration.

As harvest approached, the mood in the vineyards was one of precision. Picking decisions focused on capturing the exact moment where floral aromatics, citrus expression, and mineral freshness align. In vintages like this, timing is everything: a matter of hours rather than weeks.

And so, Vistamare 2025 is best understood as a story of luminosity.

In the glass, it is expected to show a bright, almost airy profile—citrus peel, white peach, Mediterranean herbs, and subtle floral notes lifted by a saline, coastal edge. The texture is likely to be sleek and vibrant rather than weighty, with acidity acting as the backbone that carries the wine forward.

Unlike warmer or more opulent years, 2025 does not seem to aim for richness. Instead, it leans into precision, fragrance, and clarity—the kind of vintage where detail matters more than density.

Vistamare 2025 is, in essence, a story of air and light. A wine shaped by openness rather than force, where the coastal landscape speaks clearly through every element.

It is a reminder that not all vintages seek depth in weight—some find it in freshness, balance, and the quiet intensity of purity.
