The Story

Marqués de Riscal Reserva wines are basically made from grapes from tempranillo vines planted before de 70’s, grown in the best clay-limestone soils of the Rioja Alavesa. This variety withstands oak- and bottle ageing well thanks to its good balance of acidity and fine tannin. The Graciano and Mazuelo varieties, whose presence in the blend does not exceed 10%, provide crispness and a lively colour. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temp...

Written Notes

Deep brown colour. Curious sweet, raisiny and plummy nose, spirity warmth. Soft and rich, round, mouth-filling palate. Stylish and balanced with good freshness. Long, still fruity finish.

Dark garnet red with brick red hue. Opulent nose with aroma reminiscent of fine leather, cigar-box, prunes and hints of elder berries, vanilla and gingerbread spices in the background. On the palate distinct acidity, medium weigh and length. This wine is more convincing in the nose than on the palate.

Good looking normal size bottle. Colour is brownish, and looking dark and deep. The taste is focused, elegant, and dry, with high tannin ., with drying tannins, and average in acidity, medium-bodied, with concentrated structure and mature. On the palate it is layered and has floral, perfumed, mineral and toasty flavours. The finish is long, vibrant and a bit too too tannic .. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 1-5 years.
