The Story

Family run since the 19th century, the Billecart Champagne house delivers large number of bottles which are always well made and of the highest quality.

This prestigious cuvée, created in 1964 as a homage to the founder of the Champagne house, is the result of an assembly which has remained unchanged since its creation. The vinification, partially in traditional barrels, asserts a well-rounded and generous character, favouring a subtle and ...

Vintage 2012

The next most exceptional vintage since 2008. A truly difficult growing season saw severe frosts in the winter. March brought warmth but early budbreak made the vines vulnerable to spring frosts. Overall, the early growing season was wet, and mildew became a serious issue. However, conditions improved dramatically in the later summer months. Written Notes

Billecart-Salmon’s 2012 Nicolas François represents the house's first release of this cuvée since 2008 and is another resounding success. The signature winemaking approach remains steadfast: cool-temperature settling and fermentation, a subtle touch of oak barrel vinification, and partial malolactic fermentation. Born from a challenging season marked by an extended flowering, heavy rains, mildew, and reduced yields, it opens with bright aromas of candied lemon, honeysuckle, and ripe peach layered with notes of beeswax and orange zest.

On the palate, it is full-bodied, broad, and enveloping, featuring a dense, multi-layered core of fruit supported by a chalky textural backbone and remarkably fresh, mouthwatering acidity that belies the warm vintage conditions. It finishes with incredible persistence and a fine, saline lift.
