The Story

Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon made from our 13-acre estate vineyard atop Pritchard Hill, overlooking Lake Hennessey.

Wine Information

“We chose to let it hang after the heatwave,” Kathryn Carothers, Bryant Family’s very talented, relatively new winemaker told me. “So, 2017 was very small production our end - everything we used is pre-fire.” Quantities may be minuscule this year, but the standard is high - these are some very impressive 2017s!

Written Notes

Extremely complex and fresh with blackcurrant, licorice and blueberry aromas. Fresh herbs, such as sage and mint, as well as crushed cloves add complexity. Always subtle. Full-bodied, tight and beautifully pointed. Juicy yet subtle fruit at the end. Gorgeous and serious. Drink after 2024.

Bryant's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is going to need time to come into its own - the tannins are pretty imposing at this stage, which makes the wine feel compact. Sage, tobacco, menthol, licorice, gravel and incense emerge, but only with great reluctance. There is just no way to get around the challenges of the growing season. A powerful, exotically ripe wine lies behind all of that tannin. It will be interesting to see if those qualities fully emerge over time.
