Vintage 2023

Challenges and triumphs: the 2023 vintage in Bordeaux

The Bordeaux wine region has long been revered for its exceptional wines, shaped by a delicate dance between nature and human skill. However, the 2023 vintage was proof of the resilience and adaptability of winegrowers in the face of difficult weather conditions. Written Notes

It's the 130th vintage of the Manoncourt family. The blend consists of 42% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Franc, and 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, with an alcohol content of 13.5%. The wine has a delightful aroma of raspberries, violets, and iris. It is subtle and mineral on the palate, with great depth and structure, an excellent mid-palate, silky texture, grained tannins, and an exquisitely long aftertaste. I expect this wine to compete with the 2022 vintage to become the best Figeac produced recently. This is an outstanding effort. 98-99p.

Deep dark ruby, opaque core with purple reflections, brightening on the rim. Intense blackberryish fruit, blackberries, a hint of cassis, floral nuances, inviting bouquet. Complex, juicy, deep, hints of blueberries, vivid, integrated tannins, salty minerality in the finish, lingers very well. A full-bodied and at the same time finessed food wine, certain ageing potential.

  • 97p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Very elegant nose with fragrant fruit, ripe blackberries and blackcurrants, ripe plums and black cherries, fine aromatic herbs, excellent aromatic tension on the nose complemented by hints of oriental spices and very refined toasting, hints of minerality, white blossoms and wisteria in the background. On the palate excellent freshness, great aromatic depth and length, silky tannins, a very seductive Figeac with fine tension, offering a promising future.
