Gevrey Chambertin is the most northern of the great communes of the Côte de Nuits. There are 26 Premiers Crus and 8 Grands Crus. Half of the Premiers Crus surrounds the Grands Crus (near Morey) ; the other half faces the north (near La Combe de Lavaux), with calcareous and clayey soils. The origin of "Chambertin" comes from one of the owners whose name was Bertin and who had the idea to plant vineyards close to the "climat" used by monks. "Ch...

Côte de Nuits in the year 640 AD as a monastic property. In 1219 it passed to the canons of Langres, who retained ownership until the Revolution of 1789. The name Chambertin has been used since the 13th century and once shared imperial approval with Clos de Bèze - Napoleon would drink nothing else. Its boundaries have not changed since the Middle Ages. In recognition of their similarity, the 7 " Climats " adjoining those of Chambertin and Clos...

2005 VINTAGE in Burgundy / Hopes made way for certainty.
2005 promises to produce outstanding whites, with elegance and opulence beyond the norm, and superb, seductive and well-structured red wines.
The richness of these wines perfectly expresses the diversity of the region. A wine of excellent quality is achieved above all through the ripeness and healthiness of the grapes. For this reason, thanks to the almost ideal climatic conditions...

Written Notes
A barrel sample. Decanted for 0 minutes. A dark, almost black colour. Initially, a slightly closed and modest scent. Chocolate, blackcurrant and oak aromas can, however, be noticed. Instead (of what?), the taste was really thick and rich. Young cherries, honey and earth aromas caressed my taste buds. A fairly tannic and youthful wine, which is suitably backed by a beautiful balanced structure and good fruitiness. A sumptuously rich aftertaste without a disturbing excessive oakness and alcohol. A more elegant and ready wine than I had expected. At its best from 2020.
