The Story

The Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru appellation is shared by the two villages Aloxe-Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses in the Northern part of the Côte de Beaune. The village of Aloxe-Corton has the rare ability of having over half of its area covered by Grand Cru vineyards.

Corton Charlemagne is powerful, rich, and mineral with an intense flavour of fruits and flowers and spicy aromas of pepper and cinnamon.

It goes very well with haute cuisine, fish and shellfish, white meat and poultry with cream sauces.

Compared with 2009, these figures represent a deficit of 25 percent in red and 16 percent in white.

Written Notes

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru has a pretty, peachy nose with white flower and brioche-like aromas. It is nicely defined but not powerful. The palate is balanced with a more honeyed texture than its peers, intimating just a little botrytis, and it seems to fade towards the finish.

Accessible, succulent nose. Quite forward. Medium-full body. Some oak. Good fruit on the attack. Good grip. Could have done with a bit more concentration but rich on the finish and very good indeed.
