Vintage 2016

This year trialled the growers with many climatic hazards from excessive rainfalls to frosts, downy mildew, hail, draught and, finally, sunburn. Written Notes

Wine from a south-facing vineyard planted in 1987 with sélection massalle in Bouzy's finest chalk soil. 2 grams of sugar and no malolactic fermentation. An entirely organic wine in 3640 copies. Not quite as impressive as 2015, but very lovely in the same style. Tar, licorice, cocoa, freshly sawn juniper wood, leather, black truffle are toned down, but above all a large maffy and at the same time fresh fruit of fresh plums, apples, blood grape but most of all rhubarb juice.

“Deep onionskin hued colour, almost the depth of a rosé. Fragant floral nose with opulent rich, ripe red fruit tones. Ginger, orange blossom and orange peel. The chalky notes get amplified while in the glass and the back palate feels distinctly mineral. Fleshy, round mouth-feel and hugely expressive fruitiness. Vinous but comes with a beautiful acid line. Long, very clean finish. Impressive development in the glass.”
