The Story

Time is expressed in Opus One by the character of the vintage: sometimes with a personality that is highly defined and sometimes with a shade of difference quite subtle from other vintages.  Through the minds and hands of the vineyard workers we capture time and the essence of the season – coaxing concentration and tempering abundance.

Wine Information

Vintage 2001 produced small, concentrated berries and an excellent, unhurried harvest. The 2001 Opus One shows aromas of black currant, black cherry liqueur, plum, and fresh vanilla, with hints of graham cracker and black peppercorn. Written Notes

Currants, mint, flowers, and licorice in the nose. Medium to full bodied, with elegant tannins and an after taste of currants, cassis, and sandalwood. Fresh and sophisticated, with lovely intensity and juicy fruit. Open one tonight and see for yourself.

87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. 32 days’ skin contact. 17 months in new French oak. Long, even growing period. Winemaker Michael Silacci’s first vintage. He had a little help from Patrick Léon. Eliminated just two barrels.
Glowing, shaded ruby. Heady, direct aroma is so intense and powerful! Not alcoholic, just strong. Dusty finish with a suggestion of tamarind and something sweet and Fisherman’s Friend-like. Great balance. Warm bricks. Brilliant. Beginner’s luck?
