Tenth Anniversary for Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2007
A stellar vintage whose quality is recognised by the international experts
An important vintage, one to remember, that marks Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia's tenth vintage.
A true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia. Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.
In this tenth vintage, we recall an ideal growing period in 2007. The sun of September, especially, which alternated hot days with cool ventilated nights, invigorated the vineyards and helped the grapes take the final steps to reach perfect ripeness, under optimal conditions. This can be seen clearly in the 2007 Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia, which precedes the release of the flagship wine Ornellaia by six months and which provides, in a certain sense, a vintage preview.
Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia perfectly interprets a textbook vintage for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the varietals of the blend, whose complexity and aromatic freshness shine forth.
"From an agronomic standpoint, having ideal conditions in September enabled a perfect, slow, steady ripening of the grapes," says Leonardo Raspini, General Director and Agronomist of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, adding: "in this way, the grapes mature with a good concentration of aromas and polyphenols and without any hint of overripening.
"A complex bouquet, with intense red berry fruit, sweet spice and balsamic mint and eucalyptus accents" -- this is the description Axel Heinz, Winemaker of Tenuta dell’Ornellaia, gives to Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia 2007, and adds: "ample and silky on the palate, it displays an elegant, deft tannic structure, fresh sweet fruit, and intense minty accents."
Now 10 years down the road, the wine is a reality to be reckoned with and opinion leaders all over the world are giving it its just recognition.
