In the heart of the Rhône Valley, this small chapel has become one of the world’s great historic buildings
La Chapelle, the jewel of Maison Jaboulet, has a rich and emotive history.
During the 13th century, a knight called Gaspard de Sterimberg settled in the hills of Tain l’Hermitage with the permission of Blanche de Castille. On his return from the crusades, he sought calm and serenity and isolated himself as a hermit, hence the name of t...

Written Notes
We were nearing the end, mercifully, so we changed it up to Rhone with a 1966 Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle. This was a great Rhone in a perfect spot, long and full of coffee and menthol flavors. It felt like it had a tattoo which read ‘animal’ (95).
Good looking magnum size bottle, in an excellent condition and has bottom neck level. Colour is ruby red, and looking healthy, dark, evolved and deep. On the nose it is youthful, refined, opulent, seductive, generous and forward. The taste is round, focused, vigor, powerful, with silky tannins, with balanced, concentrated structure and developing. The finish is long, extensive, spicy and vibrant. This wine is transparent, sexy and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 10-15 years and decant at least 2h before tasting.
