Written Notes

Named in honour of one of the most popular and hard working winemakers in the Barossa, this is a cracking example of Barossa Shiraz. The first release was from the 1994 vintage and it has proved to be one of the region’s gems, vintage after vintage. Sourced from vineyards in Ebenezer, Greenock and Moppa Hills, the separate batches are treated individually. Fruit is destemmed and then moved to different sized fermenters. Variations on a theme apply to the winemaking, before the various parcels are placed in American oak for a year to sixteen months.

Black/purple in colour, the nose has chocolate, plums and blackberries and also a lovely note reminiscent of Christmas cake. Rich and ripe, this is full of flavour and absolutely perfect for lovers of Barossa Shiraz. The palate moves more to notes of roast meats and dry herbs. Concentration right through to the long finish with silky tannins. Easy to enjoy this now, but it has a good ten to twenty years ahead of it if well cellared. 95.
