Written Notes

This is a single vineyard wine from 1950's plantings, in an amphitheatre at Mengler's Hill (anyone visiting the Barossa should take themselves up the Hill as it has the region's best views). The vineyard is at an altitude of 490 metres, very high for the region. Only 230 cases but definitely worth chasing. The St H team especially like the persistence in this wine. And it really does linger. There are flavours of plums, sour cherries and cedary notes, all supported by a sweet core of fruit that continues to emerge in the glass. Good intensity and very fine tannins. Lots of potential here. This is part of the St Hallett's single vineyard program that commenced three years ago. And in turn, this is all part of the continuing search/program for Barossa terroir. Also worth mentioning that the St Hallett's team is very positive about the 2009 vintage. They are not the only ones.
