The Story

Australia's iconic wine regions provide great diversity. With the Jaraman range we search for parcels of extraordinary fruit to craft wines that showcase their distinctive regional characteristics and style.

The fruit for Jaraman wines is sourced from celebrated Australian wine regions that are renowned for the particular variety. The winemakers ensure that the distinct regional characteristics are preserved and enhanced with the fruit as the star and any winemaking influence the supporting act. The wines showcase the skill and dedication of our winemakers to their philosophy of 'respect the fruit'.

Origin: Clare Valley (72%) and McLaren Vale (28)

Vinification: The wine was matured in a mixture of coopers’ American oak hogsheads (30% 1 year old and 70% 2-3 year old for 14 months before being bottled.

Tasting note: The wine has a deep cerise red colour to the centre with a vibrant purple hue to the edges. There are lifted aromas of black plum and blackberry fruit along with a hint of coffee bean and spice. This is a luscious wine with layers of flavours of dark berry fruit, ripe cherries and plum along with attractive oak characters of roasted coffee beans and spice. Overall, the wine is well balanced with well-integrated tannins providing the palate with firm structure and persistent length.

Vintage 2012

Lower-than-average yields in Australia, as across much of Europe. This was blamed on high winds, drought and low fruitfulness resulting from the poor 2011 vintage. Quality, however, was much better than in the exceptionally damp 2011, with South Australia avoiding some of the weather extremes experienced by other states. Strong varietal typicality is a commonly cited feature of the 2012 crop.

Written Notes

The Jarraman range draws fruit two selected regions, in this case Shiraz from McLaren Vale and Clare Valley.Mix of plummy, violet, dusty notes - but found the choc-nut oak a little obtrusive here. Palate shows black fruits, silken and smooth - fairly easy going. Finishes with fruit, oak and a hint of bitter-choc-chicory. Personally I preferred the 2012 Estate Shiraz, others disagree. 86 - Average
