Wine Information

CChâteau Mouton Rothschild 1998

Climatic conditions
February and March were rather dry, causing the vine to bud earlier than usual, though the lack of rain in the second half of March probably slowed this advance. Shoot tips appeared between 27 and 29 March depending on the variety. Cold and wet weather in April halted the vegetation cycle and hampered spring work in the vineyard. May was quite the opposite – hot and dry, with no rain at a...

Written Notes

Good, dark and deep colour. Quite open and clean, gentle nose with hints of cassis and coffee aromas. Fleshy, sweet wine with soft tannin, but still has a lot of character and complexity. Very vigorous and elegant wine, but unquestionably lacking the charm and roundness to be one of the greatest Moutons. Warm and satisfying finish. Considering it was an "off" year, the wine was surprisingly good and one of the best wines of this weak vintage.

There was more yeast and bakery in the nose of the 1998 Mouton Rothschild. Cassis and black fruit came across in this elegant Mouton. It was surprisingly lighter and lesser than the 1999 that preceded it (92).

Good looking normal size bottle, in an excellent condition and has bottom neck level. Colour is ruby red, and looking healthy, full and deep . On the nose it is wide, refined, opulent and generous. The taste is round, full, fragrant, focused, refined, medium-bodied and with balanced structure. The finish is medium long, round, lingering, flavorful and pure. This wine is sophisticated, transparent and fine. Perfectly stored bottles are still very worthy and will last well for another 20-30 years and decant at least 2h before tasting. Good value for money.
