Parker 90-93 points / The 2013 is a star of the vintage. It exhibits a dense purple color along with deep mulberry, black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with a notion of licorice. Medium-bodied with supple tannins, it reminds me of their over-achieving 1973 in its youth (a wine that transcended the vintage character). The lovely, seductive, fruit-forward 2013 will be drinkable in several years and last 10-15 years thereafter.

The Story

Drinking Pétrus may be an unforgettable experience. We has been lucky to have the opportunity to taste most of its great vintages. That is why wine enthusiasts often come to us for advice. First, WeI advise you to choose a good vintage, an excellent one if your wallet allows. If you taste a poor vintage, you will notice how it raises above most other wines of the same vintage, but you will miss the actual point of Pétrus.

Written Notes

The 2013 Petrus exhibits a deep garnet color with a youthful vibrancy. The nose is refined, offering a bouquet of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums, layered with hints of truffle, cedar, and a touch of graphite.

On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a smooth, balanced texture. Flavors of dark fruit are complemented by subtle notes of chocolate, espresso, and a gentle spice. The wine’s fresh acidity provides a harmonious structure and supports its rich fruit profile.

The finish is long and elegant, leaving a lasting impression of fruit and earthy undertones.

Ruby, garnet rim. Scented, red berries, anise, floral, detailed, nuanced, bright if leaner nose. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, red berries, anise, some spices, juicy, elegant texture, long finish. Very smooth. 95

The 2013 Pétrus possesses lovely depth and density for the year. Dark red stone fruits, tobacco, smoke and graphite all blossom in the glass. Underlying beams of firm tannin support the fruit nicely. Violets, game, plums and new leather wrap around the finish. Today, the tannins are a bit firm, especially within the context of the vintage, but the wine retains solid balance and has plenty of potential to grow, even if it isn't especially flattering today.

Pétrus 2013 / 94 points / Youthful and pure aromas of violet, dark berries, mineral and cassis. Very fluid palate with powdery tannin, good extract and exceptional length, elegant dark fruit, well concealed oak, good amount of freshness, harmonious and rounded with great potential.

  • 94p

It was harvested on 2-3-4 October, only 26 hl/ha, lost around 40% of potential crop during flowering. Late harvest in 2013 for this property was very beneficial and it reflects in the wine. Excellent effort, very refined, balanced, sweet fruit, excellent acidity, structure and complexity.
