Score 98-100/100 · Drink 2030-2065, Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider, May 2024

Flowers, chocolate, dried raspberries, cherries, spice, citrus, and a background note of truffle create the aromatic profile. On the palate, it is interesting to note the viscosity, coupled with freshness, length, and purity. There is an elegance that allows the purity in the berries to already express themselves. The velvet-textured finish, with its spices, ch...

The Story

Drinking Pétrus may be an unforgettable experience. We has been lucky to have the opportunity to taste most of its great vintages. That is why wine enthusiasts often come to us for advice. First, WeI advise you to choose a good vintage, an excellent one if your wallet allows. If you taste a poor vintage, you will notice how it raises above most other wines of the same vintage, but you will miss the actual point of Pétrus.

Written Notes

Plus serré et plus en tension qu’à l’habitude, la bouche généreuse par sa densité tannique est pleine de délicatesse et de charme. Rebond final magique. 96-97

  • 97p

Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections. Black forest berry fruit with tobacco and herbal spices, cranberries, sea buckthorn, some liquorice. Deep with a firm structure, red berryish nuances, good freshness, ripe tannins, delicate fruit expression, mineral and salty, lingers for a very long time, a successful combination of floral, delicate aromas on the nose and a firm body in the finish, shows great length and good ageing potential.

  • 98p

Scented, blackberries, detailed, intense, layered, complex, pure, dense yet lifted nose, very aromatic. Floral with more air, incredible nose allready.  Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, detailed, intense, spices, liquorice, nuanced, layered, deep, stunning balance, rich yet lifted, incredible texture, long finish. Stunning. Highly seductive. One of the highest tannin concentration ever on Petrus, some 30% higher than on the 2022, yet impeccably smooth and velvety, very fine grained. Wine of the vintage for me together with Le Pin.

  • 100p

Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Noble nose with exuberant fruit, blackberries, violets and dark chocolate, hints of cardamom in the background. On the palate well balanced and structured, intense fruit, black cherries, fresh raspberries, sophisticated mid palate, great depth and length, fine floral hints. Very elegant with mouth-watering minerality, rich tannins which are perfectly balanced. Incredible persistence with freshness. A great wine with excellent tension.

  • 99p

Intense blackberry and chocolate aromas with plenty of ripe pips and spices. Medium body with fluidity and a sense of wonder to it. The quality of the tannins is so good as to be imperceptible. It has 30% more tannin than the 2022, but then it grows on the finish. pH 3.65 and 14.5% alcohol. 99-100

  • 100p

Petrus: 100% Merlot. It is softer and more elegant than 2022. It has intense notes of black cherries, blueberries, and violets, with velvety tannins, finesse, and incredible complexity. It is sophisticated, focused, and precise, with a refreshing finish. Wonderful effort. 98p.
